Bat Symbols
I created this basic illustration for a color study project in my first basic design class. If I remember right, we were studying the effect of different colors on black or something. Who knows for sure? The design is essentially a collection of bat symbols arranged in a symmetrical pattern with attention to complementary colors. The shapes were distorted using vector envelopes in CorelDRAW. This image was printed and used for the basis of an acrylic paint color study. The various bat symbols were painted with a set grayscale level. The varying background colors made the gray appear to be different colors. It's basically one of those simple eye-mind tricks.
