The road conditions were somewhat hazardous on the way down the eastern side of the pass. The red lava rocks were replaced by mostly solid and compressed snow and ice. I was surprised not to have any difficulty. I didn't even test the surface by putting on my brakes but am certain that if I did I would have slid and spun around quite a bit. I simply kept a consistent speed and slowed down far in advance of tight curves to make sure I didn't bash into the very high snow embankments.
